The team - Specialmoves

The team

Who runs this great ship?

We’d prefer to introduce the studio in person, but suffice to say we’re a tight-knit team of producers, UX & visual designers, and developers. There are a few things that are consistent across the team: talent, high standards and an absolute love for what we do.

To be more specific about our skills: client side we’re brilliant in HTML/CSS/JS, Flash and Unity3D. And back-end we’re all about .NET and PHP. We recruit multi-skilled talent and big brains that are always seeking out the new.

These days over we have over 30 people working in our studio in Exmouth market. And when we asked them why they love coming to work here, the answer was consistent…because of all the seriously talented, experienced and friendly people we have here. That and the biscuit drawer!

Pascal Auberson – Founder and Technical Director

Pascal's responsible for the overall technical direction of the studio. With over 20 years’ experience of programming in a wide variety of languages & environments, Pascal’s wisdom and ingenuity has helped many a developer with doubts on an approach, or a thorny problem to solve for a client. He’s also in charge of our R&D efforts, critically evaluating new technical developments, and helping to build the skills of the studio as a whole.

Alexandra Ranson – Managing Director

Alex’s first job as an MD was at 16 when she set up a second hand school uniform business, later shut down by her housemaster for being too profitable. Twenty-something years later, she’s MD of Specialmoves: a pretty similar environment, slightly less profit. Alex used to be an investment banker at UBS and says the nicest thing about Specialmoves is the free fruit and not having to wear a suit.

Simon Poett - Creative Director

Simon is a conceptual thinker and craftsman driven by a desire to understand human behaviour and emotion. Throughout his career he has consistently delivered high impact interactive projects for Speedo, adidas, Powerade, Coke, CNN and Manchester United. Whilst at iris worldwide, he lead and grew the digital team from a modest 5 to an army of 80. Today, Simon is responsible for all aspects of Specialmoves creative output and delivery. A champion of digital integration, he strongly believes in harnessing intelligent insight and brilliant execution to improve peoples’ lives.

Gina Russell – Head of People

Having worked in interactive for over 10 years, Gina knows the digital community and agency-land inside out. She knows first-hand the importance of a strong culture and works hard to make sure we find and keep the best talent. Our people are everything to us, and Gina ensures Specialmoves is a great place to work and develop your career.
