Halifax Online Choir - Specialmoves
In case X-Factor didn't quite get you in the mood for singing your heart out, then perhaps the prospect of raising £100k for Save the Children would have. We worked closely with adam&eve and Halifax to create a digital platform that kept on giving last Christmas.
You could join the Halifax Choir by visiting the site, recording your own video and creating a choir of people from the recordings submitted. Choirs could be made up of your Facebook friends or complete strangers.
‘Like’ the site or a choir on Facebook and Halifax donated £1, sing along to ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’ and they donated £2, invite a friend and they gave £1. Easy.
The site featured backing music from the real Halifax choir, and in order to sound as good as them, we included a pitch detection tool that monitored the pitch of your performance. We also built a nifty interface on the homepage that allowed you to hear the individual voices on rollover, and view the choirs that had been created.
Another nice touch was that the home page videos were synced to bring all the sounds and picture stogether seamlessly. With the extra dimension of the donations being added to the total at different points throughout the site, the project was technically challenging and involved extensive Facebook testing.
With so much user-generated content, moderation was crucial, so we built a moderation tool for administrators to view clips, and then accept or reject them. Once a choir was approved, it was posted to your Facebook wall for all to see.
Halifax raised a staggering sum for Save the Children. There's nothing quite like having a sing-along, whilst donating to a good cause.
